Dr. Karen Cheng is board-certified in neurology and is an active member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Neurology, and the California Sleep Society. Dr.Cheng is in private practice in Laguna Hills at the Saddleback Medical Tower and is a medical staff member of Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.
Dr. Cheng attended college at Stanford University , where she graduated with honors in 1999. While at Stanford, she studied neurobiology and dance. Subsequently, she obtained her medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia in 2003. She completed her internship and residency in neurology at UC Irvine during 2003 to 2007. During her training as a neurologist, she studied sleep disorders in patients with neuromuscular conditions.
Following her residency in neurology and completed a clinical fellowship in sleep medicine from 2007-2008 at Stanford University , which was the site of the very first sleep disorders clinic in the country. While at Stanford, she had the privilege of treating patients with a variety of sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, and REM-sleep behavior disorder.
